How to Delete Your Account
We're sorry to see you go! If you've decided to delete your BarMate account, you have two options:
Option 1: In-App Deletion (Recommended)
- Open the BarMate app on your iOS device
- Navigate to Profile (bottom right)
- Tap Settings (gear icon)
- Scroll down to Account section
- Tap Delete Account
- Read the warning and confirm by tapping Delete My Account
- Enter your password to verify your identity
Your account will be deleted immediately.
Option 2: Email Request
If you cannot access the app, you can request account deletion via email:
- Send an email to privacy@barmate.app
- Use the subject line: "Delete My Account"
- Include the following information:
Hi,
Please delete my BarMate account.
Email address: [your account email]
Username: [your username, if known]
Thank you.
We will verify your identity and process the deletion within 48 hours. You'll receive a confirmation email once complete.
Once your account is deleted, all your data will be permanently removed and cannot be recovered. Please make sure you want to proceed before confirming.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Profile Information: Your name, email address, username, and profile photo
- Check-ins: All venue check-ins, photos, ratings, and notes
- Friend Groups: Your group memberships and any groups you created
- Invitations: All pending group invitations (sent and received)
- Planned Visits: All scheduled venue visits
- Bar Hops: All bar hop plans and history
- Favorites: Your saved venues and favorite places
- Notification Preferences: All notification settings
- Device Tokens: Push notification registrations
What Happens to Groups You Own
If you're the only admin of a group:
- The group will be deleted along with your account
- All members will be removed from the group
- Members will receive a notification that the group no longer exists
If the group has other admins:
- The group will continue to exist
- You will simply be removed as a member
- Other admins can continue managing the group
Data Retention
After account deletion:
- All personal data is permanently deleted from our systems
- Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained (e.g., total check-in counts)
- This anonymized data cannot be linked back to you
- Backup systems may retain encrypted copies for up to 30 days before automatic purging
What Happens After Deletion
- Immediate: You'll be logged out and lose access to your account
- Within 24 hours: All personal data is removed from our active databases
- Within 30 days: Data is purged from all backup systems
- Confirmation: You'll receive an email confirming the deletion
Can I Create a New Account?
Yes! If you change your mind later, you're welcome to create a new account with the same email address. However, your previous data cannot be recovered - you'll start fresh.
